Committee Announces 2021 Event Charities
MAYVILLE, NY — The 2021 Chautauqua Gran Fondo is scheduled for Sat., Aug. 21, at Mayville Lakeside Park. In its seventh consecutive year, this cycling for charity event will raise funds and awareness for three local organizations:
The Créche, Inc. — An event partner since our inception in 2015, Creche is an all-volunteer organization who supports the needs of children in the community. This group of dedicated women has provided local youth backpacks, school supplies, cribs, clothing, hospital equipment and tuiXon for summer camps.
The Bemus Point - Stow Ferry — Back in operation a_er a 3-year hiatus for repairs, this historic vessel is the highlight of our 20-mile route. Social riders and families are encouraged to parXcipate in this unique opportunity to ride the Ferry. This year, the CHQGF will proudly donate $10 of every 20-mile registration in support of this Chautauqua Lake treasure.
Mayville Library — In conjunction with the Chautauqua-Cadaraugus Library System, the Mayville Library is a local organization with a mission to promote lifelong learning, strengthen community connections and also provide opportunities for creativity and exploration.
Participants of the 2021 CHQ Gran Fondo are invited to cycle one of three scenic routes, each with varied degrees of difficulty. The 20-miler is designed for social riders and families, and features a trip across the lake on the nostalgic Bemus Point-Stow Ferry. The second route is designed for fitness enthusiasts, with a full 40+ mile loop around Chautauqua Lake. Along this path, cyclists will breeze by many turn-of-the-century homes, historic villages and notable sights including Midway State Park and the Jamestown Riverwalk. The third route, designed specifically for experienced cyclists is a metric century ride out to Lake Erie. This 60-miler will take cyclists through Westfield and onto the Barcelona Lighthouse before heading back to loop around Chautauqua Lake.
This is a fully supported recreational ride with several marked aid stations out on the course.
The ride will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. and the course will be closed at 2:00 p.m. As participants return to Mayville Lakeside Park, a post-ride party will be underway which will include a picnic lunch and entertainment.
Early registration is now open online at a cost of $50 per rider. The deadline to receive a t-shirt is July 30.
